In this workshop, school counselors will gain insights into effectively supporting pregnant and parenting students by aligning resources, strategies, and policies with Title IV requirements. With Simpson Academy for Young Women in Chicago as a premier educational OPTION, counselors will explore how this specialized school can offer a nurturing environment specifically tailored to meet the unique needs of young mothers. However, for students who prefer to remain at their home school, this workshop will focus on equipping counselors with strategies to ensure that these students receive comprehensive support.
Through hands-on activities, case studies, and collaborative discussions, counselors will learn to advocate for and facilitate access to resources—including academic support, childcare, healthcare, mental health services, and parental involvement opportunities. The session will emphasize creating an inclusive and understanding school culture, empowering students to thrive academically and personally, whether they choose to attend an Options school like Simpson Academy or stay in their current school setting.
